ABOUT US
Packaged Concrete, Inc. (PCI) was incorporated and opened operations in Wheaton, Illinois in January
of 1972. From the very start, the Company’s purpose has been to package and
market QUIKRETE® concrete and QUIKRETE® concrete related products.
The original products packaged
were concrete mix, sand mix, mortar mix, play sand and blacktop patch. It was an
extremely challenging and difficult beginning as we had limited production facilities,
customers and business experience in manufacturing and marketing. After several
years the Company was doing well until disaster struck on December 7, 1978 when
our manufacturing plant and office burned to the ground. Thanks to our friends,
vendors, customers, and employees we were able to rebuild and in 90 days we were
back in the manufacturing business.
In July of 1983, PCI purchased
ITASCA Powders Tile Mortar and Grout Company and began manufacturing tile
products in our plant in Illinois. A year later, the tile operation was moved to
our new plant in Wheaton, Illinois. In 1984, we purchased another company in Iowa
and incorporated it into the Wheaton plant. In 1984 PCI moved the tile operation
and main office into a new 25,000 square foot building in West Chicago, Illinois.
Our new building included production facilities to produce construction products,
tile grouts and other related items.
In 1992, a new production
line was added to produce SPEC MIX® Bulk Mortar and Grout materials and
other masonry products. Also installed was a new fully automated palletizer.
On February 27, 1995, John
W. Petty, our Founder and President, passed away. His sons, John D. Petty and Brian
Petty, assumed responsibility and eventual ownership.
In 1998 a new production
facility was established in Elburn, Illinois to replace the Wheaton and West Chicago
facilities.
The new 60,000 SF production
facility can simultaneously produce multiple products. With over 20 bulk aggregate
and powder storage bins, PCI can store over 6,000,000 lbs of raw material.
A variety of bulk cements, aggregates, admixtures and powders coupled with high
production rates, hand add stations and in line quality control measures has given
PCI a state-of-the-art production facility.
The success of PCI is due
to our employees, customers and vendors. We have arrived at this point through hard
working people seeking efficient and productive ways of serving our customers. Everyone
at Packaged Concrete, Inc. is proud of our Company and its achievements.
